I have learned…

Yesterday, I was carrying my backpack into work to take care of some things over my lunch and because it had been so long since I had carried a backpack, I felt a little silly.  Like I was a student, but what was I learning?  Then, it hit me.  I am a student of life.  Constantly changing, experiencing new things and people, and growing every day.  We are all students of life.  They say that a baby learns more in its first year than it will ever learn for the rest of its life.  In two years, I feel like I have learned so much, that I am sure I will not be able to list it all.  Can we study for this assignment?  No, we have to live it.  When do we get graded?  When our time on this earth is no longer ours.  Imagine what we can do with all that we know…with all that we believe…with all that we can share…with all of our love…

Here is what I have learned (so far)…

  • I have learned that I can only control my attitude and effort.
  • I have learned to allow others to care about me.
  • I have learned to take down the walls.
  • I have learned that being real is better than being perfect.
  • I have learned that I am more than I was.
  • I have learned to be vulnerable, even in front of others.
  • I have learned that I have a purpose.
  • I have learned the I must pick myself back up after I fall.
  • I have learned that I can do more than I ever thought I could.
  • I have learned that I cannot give what I do not have.
  • I have learned a new perspective can change everything.
  • I have learned to go “all in”, through anything and everything.
  • I have learned that letting go means having faith.
  • I have learned that I have to take care of me first before I can take care of anyone else.
  • I have learned that the little things matter.
  • I have learned that being safe means not living.
  • I have learned I am deserving and am worth it.
  • I have learned how much I am loved.
  • I have learned that I can ask questions, without knowing the answers.
  • I have learned where I shine and bloom.
  • I have learned to trust my heart.
  • I have learned to say what I feel, usually when I feel it.
  • I have learned not to be afraid.
  • I have learned that I love to write.
  • I have learned that I make people happy and smile.
  • I have learned that hugs are awesome.
  • I have learned that I have to try to have success.
  • I have learned to believe in the good things.
  • I have learned to love deeply.
  • I have learned that I still have much to learn.

Be students of life and strive to learn all you can, even when you think you can’t.  I promise you that lessons will not come in the way you think, but will come in the way they must.  Life is your teacher and you, my friends, are the grasshopper.
