Hakuna Matata

Our sons found it funny this weekend when Mike and I were caught watching “The Lion King” because it is a kid movie, but there are valuable life lessons that are played out during this movie.  We can run from our past, but eventually it catches back up to us and what we once believed to be true and the shame that followed us, actually wasn’t our shame to carry.  We also learn to face adversity, even when we are outnumbered, and swallow our pride and ask forgiveness.  Then, and only then, can we continue the journey we were meant to take.  Wouldn’t it be nice to say, “Hakuna Matata” and really meant it?  For those of you that don’t know, “Hakuna Matata” means “no worries”.  Sometimes, without warning things come to us that make us worry.  I cannot imagine what my friends, the Z’s, go through every day with their son and the cancer fight he is in for every day going forward.  I just can’t.  And then everything else that I worry about seems so insignificant when I think about their worries when I compare them to mine.  But regardless of the type of worry we carry, wouldn’t it be nice to be like Pumba and Timon and just let everything be carefree?  But, we can’t.  We worry about how we are going to put our kids through college.  We worry about when we will find a job.  We worry about how we our book will be received.  We worry about all kinds of things…some of minute consequence and others of great magnitude.  Some worries people will never understand and others that will hold your hand because they live that same nightmare over and over too.  We spend a lot of time worrying about things we cannot control.  It is actually the unknown that terrifies us most and we need to let go of the worries.  We should handle what we have in front of us right now, not something that may never happen.  And it is difficult being around someone who lives in the “what if’s?” and “tomorrows”.  I know.  But every day, I choose not to worry about what I cannot decide today.  What has not come to me for an answer.  Every day, I choose HAKUNA MATATA.
