Never too “young”

How many of you have said, “I can’t do anything different.  I am too old.”  or “It is too late for me.”  Sounds familiar?  Maybe the words are different, but the meaning is the same.  Looking around the room to see if I just called you out.  Stop looking.  I did.  As you process this, I am going to give you more to process.  Hold on.  We look for ANY (and I mean, ANY) excuse to convince ourselves that we can’t.  “No one else is doing anything…why should I?” How about, “I don’t know where to start.” or the ever classics, “It is too hard.” or “What if I fail?” Heard any of those before?  As we approach a New Year, what do you say to a New You as well?  Do you want something different? Then do something different.  I can tell you every reason why you shouldn’t, but that just isn’t my style.  I am going to tell you every reason why you should:

  1. There are plenty of people who run their first marathon at 80 years old.  Fauja Singh still runs them…he is 102 years old.
  2. An 84-year-old man created an app of a word game, called “Dabble”.  He certainly did not grow up with today’s technology.
  3. A 102 year old woman attended her first class ever — in elementary school — in 2010.  You are never too old to learn something new.
  4. Thomas Edison failed over 1,000 times before he created the lightbulb.  Good thing he never gave up.
  5. Even after you die, your legacy will live on.  Van Gogh is proof of that.
  6. The examples can go on…

…but I will stop there for now.  The purpose of this is to get you moving in a direction you never saw yourself in before.  Maybe is a direction you have ALWAYS wanted to take, but lacked the courage to take it.  Ever been in a situation or caught up in a moment and as you try to process what you see, this “feeling” takes over and actually makes you “lift” off the ground?  What if by YOU trying, it stirs something in someone else takes them places they always wanted to go, but found a reason not to?  What we think has to happen is that people will only notice what we do or what we say if we are successful, but that is not the case at all!  Not every success can be seen by others.  Some successes are things that no one ever notices.   Aren’t you tired of giving yourself the easy way out of life?  If everyone is doing it, no one notices.  But if you start to walk down your OWN path and veer away from the others, then people will start paying attention.  I promise you that!  It is never too late…you are never too old…who cares if you fail (you can’t succeed either if you don’t try).  Stop looking for all the answers before you even ask the questions.  It doesn’t work that way.  Here is proof…a friend of mine captured her grandma, Louise, starting to read my book, “It’s Time: Changing Your Life Starts Today”.  It is NEVER too late.  So, “What Are You Waiting For?” by Natalie Grant
