The life we learn with….

Being a baseball family, it should surprise no one that my husband was watching, “The Natural” with Robert Redford last night.  My day started like any other morning this week…getting up at 4:30am for my run/walk, but I was surprised when my favorite companion was awake too and came with me.  It had been a while since Rock and I had a chance to get caught up on what was going on in our lives, but even though it was on the chilly side, I was very glad she came.  I think she enjoyed it too.  Then, without warning chaos seemed to be unfolding through phones calls and more phone calls, to the uncertainty that may occur when the phone rang again.  I fell asleep on the couch and woke up just in time to hear this quote, “The life we learn with and the life we live after.”  That got me thinking…I really don’t think there are two lives, just one life we are always learning with.  Don’t you agree?  I can’t imagine a time when I would ever say, “I’m done learning.” or “I’ve learned all I can.”  Through the experiences we go through – whether they are wonderful or ones bad enough that cannot be imagined — and the people we meet along the way we begin our life we learn with.  Being a strong-willed woman, it is pretty difficult to admit that I did not know something or that someone else might be right, but allowing to see other people’s viewpoints and to understand their opinions is one way we learn.  To see what you have always wanted (but never had) will steer you into giving that life to someone else.  Our most important lessons never come from a teacher or are something you study.  They must be lived.  Period.  I am ever grateful for the lessons I have learned along this journey, and even though they are not ones that I would wish upon anyone else, they have also made me who I am.  I have no regrets about the past and people who hold onto what was can never live in what is.  Life is what it is meant to be and sometimes we cannot change that for which there is no explanation.  We need to take those lessons (even those we don’t want) and accept the lesson that will come later.  And believe me, it will come.  Probably when you least expect it too.  So, even in those crazy moments when you think you don’t even know your name, understand that this is the life we learn with and you will forever be better for it.  Thank you to everyone who I have learned from in my past, my present, and my future.
