Oil for your lamp

I received an email about a book with a quote from Mother Teresa – “To keep a lamp burning, we must keep putting oil into it.”  Where do you get your oil?  I will tell you like anyone else that oil is a precious commodity and cannot always been seen from the surface.  You have to dig for it.  Sometimes, where you look, it will not be found.  Last night, I was at a birthday celebration for two very special people and always got caught up with KH.  I know she reads this, so she might be surprised that I am going to be writing about her, and hopefully she finds some “oil” for her lamp.  Part of our discussion was centered around taking time for ourselves, even if it is 90 minutes, once a month.  I think if her schedule was different, she would come to the G.I.F.T. without feeling guilty.  What I reminded her of is what the G.I.F.T. does for me …it is where I get my oil.

I also get my oil when I:

  • go for a run
  • write
  • see a friendly smile
  • speak to a group of people

This is where I am rejuvenated about why I am here and what my purpose is in this life.  The ladies of the G.I.F.T. are going to get what they want to get from it…nothing I say or do is going to change that.  But when you feel like all you do is make homemade chicken soup (lol), go to games, take kids to school, work full-time, etc…when do you fill your lamp?  Where do you fill it from?  I believe that KH reads this because this is one way (in the 10 minutes or so she allows herself) she can fill her lamp, but in talking with her last night, I know she wants to do more.  Her heart is full of giving and compassion for others that is so admirable and I am glad that she is my friend.  To keep enlightening the world with who we are and what makes us special can only be given if there is oil in our lamp.  Remember to take time to refill your lamp…no one else will do it for you.
