Be on the lookout

Ever cautious and careful girl…that was me.  Most times, too cautious and too careful.  I was constantly on the lookout for everything bad that could happen from any situation.  I saw the negative every where.  If it didn’t exist, I found a way to make sure that I set it up so it would exist.  It was going to come — it was just a matter of when.  Some time ago, someone asked a friend of mine if I was pessimistic and when she honestly answered “sometimes”, I felt like I had been slapped across the face.  I had worked hard and yet it wasn’t enough.  If she saw it, then others would too.  But like all behavior, it is learned and then it grows into being a force that seems to have the momentum that could never be halted, no matter how hard someone tries.  Yet, I am here to tell you that it can be done.  Because behavior is learned, it can be unlearned and replaced with new behavior.  The same goes for attitude.  Yesterday, I met a young lady that inspired me with her strength, her perserverance, and her drive to succeed.  Although she is young, I saw a lot of me in her — more than she probably knows — and she is someone who I was not expecting to impact me the way she did.  I was not ready for it.  I was not on the lookout for her.  People are always watching and you never know when you have an opportunity to impact someone’s life.  What would you do if you were given a chance to make a difference and you didn’t?  If I handed you a set of car keys right now to a new car, would you take it for a drive?  How about a ticket and all-expense paid trip to the vacation spot of your dreams?  Would you take that trip?  Maybe the winning Powerball numbers for an upcoming drawing — would you pay attention then?  OF COURSE YOU WOULD!!  But the way that we make this world better is by looking for and acting on those moments come in our way in our every day lives.  It won’t be in the form of a car, a trip, or millions of dollars.  It will be in the kind words you say, in the great hug you give, or the thinking of others first.  The every day meetings and last-minute calls that connect people is how we change everything.  Are you watching?  Be on the lookout — today could be the day you make everything different.  Today could be the day that you change your life forever.  IT STARTS TODAY!  Watch out!
